Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I bid? First, make sure you are registered and logged in. Bid on the auction by choosing the place bid button at the bottom of the auction detail screen.
2. How do I pay? Payment can be made with credit cards through paypal or you can mail a cashier's check or money order to: SWALHC
c/o Lori Whisenhunt
251 S Falling Leaves Dr
Waxahachie, TX 75167-9049
3. When do I pay? Payment is due in full by February 29, 2008. In the event that payment is not received by the due date, the next highest bidder will be awarded the stallion service. Breedings are for 2008 season unless otherwise approved with the stallion owner.
4.Do I have to be a member of SWALHC to bid? No, anyone meeting the mare owner requirements may bid
5.Should I contact the owner before I bid ? (to see if my mare is acceptable?) Not unless the auction specifically states that the stallion owner requires prior approval. You can bid anytime but it is a good idea to send a photo of your mare and pedigree information to the stallion owner for approval. In the event that your mare is not approved, please contact SWALHC admin @ lwhiz@aol.com and we will retract your bid.
At the end of the auction all of the winning bidders mares must be approved. If the mare is not an acceptable horse the next highest bidder will be offered the breeding (if their mare qualifies), and so on.
6. What if there is already a posted bid? How much more do I have to bid? Minimum increments of $100.00 will be accepted for subsequent bids
7. What happens if I am the winning bidder but fail to attempt to use the breeding this year? The SWAL club is not responsible for breedings not used for the year they were bought. If for some reason you are unable to use your breeding for the year it was purchased please contact the stallion owner and see if they will let you use it at another time.
8. What happens if I can't get my mare in foal? It is the mare owner's responsibility to have the mare checked for breeding soundness prior to bidding on an auction. If mare has no physical/medical conditions that make it difficult to conceive and reasonable attempts to breed the mare still don't result in a pregnancy, then SWALHC will
either: A: Substitute a breeding to another stallion or
B: Give the mare owner credit toward a breeding in the next year's auction.
We are unable to issue refunds of breeding fees.
9. What happens if the newborn foal dies? Most stallion owners offer a Live Foal Guarantee. Please check the stallion owners breeding contract or contact the stallion owner to see what their LFG covers.
10. Are there any additional costs besides my bid? Additional costs vary. If doing live cover, the stallion owner may charge mare care . If doing AI there are collection and shipping charges. If you have questions regarding these charges please contact the stallion owner to see what they are. Remember it is also the mare owners responsibility to get the stallions breeding history, sucessfull AI percentage, rates and any other pertinant information from the stallion owner. In the end it is the mare owner's responsibility for research into the stallions breeding history and for additional fees and expenses. The bid amount only covers the stud fee.
11. What happens if the stallion dies before my mare is bred? In the event that the stallion dies or becomes unable to produce offspring and there is not an replacement stallion that is acceptable to the mare owner then the full price of the auction bid will be refunded to the mare owner by SWALHC (within 2 months of auciton end) or credit will be given toward the next year's auction.
